What we can discuss

Plan for decisions during life

Financial and health-care decisions require different kinds of authority. We can discuss durable financial powers of attorney, medical powers of attorney, advance directives, and permissions to share medical information. The appropriate documents and scope depend on your circumstances.

Give direction for your estate

A will can address property passing under it, identify an executor, and express guardian preferences where appropriate. The review should also consider ownership records and beneficiary arrangements rather than assume that a will controls every asset.

Make the documents usable

Discuss first-choice decision makers, alternates, document storage, and how trusted people will find instructions. Signing is one step; coordinating accounts and keeping contact information current are important follow-through tasks.

Common questions

Do I need a trust as well as a will?

That depends on your assets, family goals, management needs, and the work required to implement the plan. The planning session can compare the available approaches.

Can one document cover financial and medical decisions?

These are different responsibilities. We review the documents and authority appropriate to each rather than assume one document covers both.
